Obstacles as Doorways

Wisdom Tradition: Hindu · Natural Element: Marigold

In the temples of South India, garlands of marigold are still draped each morning at the feet of Ganesh — the elephant-headed god who is the first to be invoked at every threshold, every new venture, every prayer.

Born of Shiva and Parvati, given the head of an elephant so that he might see beyond ordinary sight, Ganesh is known as the remover of obstacles — and the placer of them, where they are needed for growth.

Inspired by the temple amulets of Tamil Nadu, Ganesh is cast in 14k gold and sterling silver, adorned with a marigold — the flower of welcome, devotion, and bright beginnings.

"O Lord with the curved trunk, with the brilliance of a million suns, please make all my work free of obstacles, always."

THE NATURAL ELEMENT

Held within each piece — a fragment of the earth.

Always identified with Ganesh as a garland offering at his feet, the marigold is a symbol of surrender to the Divine — and a flower that holds the sun itself.
